A RARE CASE REPORT OF ISOLATED LARYNGEAL AMYLOIDOSIS PRESENTING AS SUBGLOTTIC MASS

Localised amyloidosis of head and neck is a rare benign disease of unknown nature. Mean age group affected is 30 to 50 years. Males are affected slightly more than females. Localized laryngeal amyloidosis is a very rare benign disease accounting for less than 1 percentage of all benign laryngeal lesions. It is usually characterized by deposition of a homogenous eosinophilic extracellular material in the laryngeal tisssues . Most common sites involved are ventricular bands, vocal cords and subglottis in the decreasing order of frequency.Here we present a case of a middle aged female who presented with hoarseness of voice and exertional stridor. Clinical and radiological examination revealed a subglottic mass from which biopsy was taken which turned out to be amyloid deposits. Systemic involvement was ruled out by appropriate investigations .Diagnosis of Isolated Laryngeal Amyloidosis was made. Excision of mass was done by Coblation.This case discusses the presentation, diagnosis and management of localized laryngeal amyloidosis by the new modality of Coblation and need for long term follow up to rule out any evidence of lo
