Abstract
The article touches upon the role of background knowledge in the process of speech interaction. In the process of speech interaction, people should take into account both the volume and nature of background knowledge of different types. Non-compliance with this principle leads to a situation of cognitive dissonance, which means any discrepancy between cognitions, i.e. between any knowledge, as well as opinions, values or beliefs relating to the environment, someone or someone's behavior
