Abstract
This article aims to review how stereotypes and prejudices influence the formation of musical preferences. After a review of the theories and the researches carried out, several claims have been arrived at. Prejudices and stereotypes are virtually inevitable in today's society. The stereotype generates prejudice, and this effectively leads to discrimination. One of the undeniable characteristics of adolescence is the development of self-identity. Musical preferences play a fundamental role in the formation and preservation of the social identity of everyone. In this sense, it is concluded that the choice of the musical repertoire is not due simply of the sense of musical taste, but that the society and the interaction between the groups plays a determining role.
