RELATIONSHIP OF CATEGORIES "MATERIAL" AND "IDEAL" IN ARTISTIC ART AS A WAY OF KNOWLEDGE OF BEING

The article deals with the correlation of philosophical categories "material" and "ideal" in artistic prac- tice. This is regarded as one of the ways to realize the knowledge of being. The realization of such a correlation in works of art makes it possible to prove the cognitive possibilities of this sphere creative activity. The embod- iment of ideas about the "material" and "ideal" in art practice is considered in the historical perspective. The author notes changes in the ideas about them in different epochs – from antiquity to the modern period. Particu- lar attention is paid to the legacy of Aristotle and Plato. Their conclusions about the action of philosophical and aesthetic universals have determined many of the theories of art
