Abstract

ANALYSIS OF VEGETATION SURROUNDING THE THREE LAKES (BERATAN, BUYAN, AND TAMBLINGAN) IN BALI. The three lakes of Beratan, Buyan, and Tamblingan are located in an endorheic basin, and play an important role as a water catchment in Bali. The study aims to determine the diversity of plant species and vegetation that grow in the three lakes of Beratan, Buyan, Tamblingan and their surrounding areas. This study was carried out using purposive random sampling. Results showed that there were 35 species of aquatic plants belonging to 19 families and 24 genera with a medium status of diversity index. The vegetation composition was not evenly distributed, some species were dominance. Based on their dominance index, Oenathe javanica (Apiaceae), Alternathera philoxeroides (Amaranthaceae) and Salvinia adnata (Salviniaceae) composed 50.9% of the summed dominance ratio (SDR), although there was a tendency that some species dominated. The dissimilarity index value and cluster analysis showed that the vegetation composition of the three lakes is not uniform. The dominant species in each lake is different. The most extreme phenomenon happened in Buyan Lake, where a large portion of water surface was covered by Salvinia adnata. It is known as one among the most invasive plants in the world and has the potential to be devastating. Therefore, proper management should be undertaken to minimize the negative effects.
