Abstract

The Umayyad dynasty, which had to deal with opposing movements from the time it was established, has also faced domestic disputes in recent times. İbrahim b. Velîd, who was the caliph in the distressed environment where the killing of Velid b. Yezîd just took place, could not find an opportunity to perform any other duties then just fighting against the opponents. In the end, İbrahim b. Velîd was not able to overcome Marwan b. Muhammed and was forced to pledge allegiance to Muhammad after isolating himself. Some Umayyad caliphs have been highly regarded by historians and their periods have been elaborated in detail, while others have not been studied as much and very detailed information about them is given in the books. Ibrahim b. Velîd is in the latter group. The history books do not provide detailed and clear information about both his pre-caliphate and post-caliphate life. Some even do not see him as a caliph. A good understanding of İbrahim b. Velid's time will also contribute to the better evaluation of the Umayyads. In this article, it is will be tried to be clarified the sources of information about İbrahim and clarify some issues that have been untouched and also debated. In the article, the controversial issues of the İbrahim b. Velid period will be emphasized. Because the information given about him in the history books is limited and varies, it is necessary to evaluate the narrations and make comments on them.
