Abstract
The work is based on General scientific fundamental provisions, such as scientific objectivity, historicism, systematic, logical, reasonable presentation of the material. Problem-conceptual and classification approaches were of particular importance for the study. The article deals with the process of religious studies formation in Russia, reveals positive trends in the study of religion in the early period for a deeper understanding of the processes of religious development in Russia.
