Abstract
A descriptive, cross-sectional study was carried out to characterize breast cancer in patients from Guantanamo province in the period 2015-2016. The research universe consisted of 1590 patients who had a diagnosis of breast cancer in the province of which a random sample of 35 patients was selected in 2015 and 46 patients in the year 2016. The main results were the following: the age group prevailed between 45 and 59 years, the risk factors identified were obesity, sedentary smoking and non-breastfeeding. It was shown that the greater percent of women did not practice breast self-examination, so the knowledge of the female population about the importance of breast self-examination is small.
