Abstract
The term mucocele is not a specific and descriptive denomination referred to an abnormal mucous accumulation inside the light of the appendix. Its etiology associates mainly with inflammatory or neoplasic processes of the apendicular mucous. The clinical form of more frequent presentation is a pain/malaise in the right iliac fossa. A case of a 62 year-old masculine patient is presented with antecedents of arterial hypertension in treatment. After the physical exam we find pain to the palpation in the right iliac fossa, peritoneal reaction and a palpable mass of medium size and borders well delimitated. With the emergency laparotomy it was evidenced a cecal appendix clearly extensive, of soft consistency and flat surface that compromise the apendicular base. A puncture was made being extracted liquid mucous and an apendicectomy was made.
