Abstract
The thyroid diseases, in particular, endemic goiter, are an urgent problem. The article deals with the issues related to the emergence of endemic goiter and methods of its diagnosis. The iodine content in the soil and water determine the degree of endemicity of the Republic of Crimea and the risks of disease. Also, there was conducted a survey, during which statistical data were revealed, reflecting the degree of awareness of the population about the problems of iodine deficiency and the use of iodine-containing products and drugs in food. The frequency of morbidity in the population was found out. The preventive measures that reduce the risks of the disease have been developed
