Abstract
This article observes functioning of extended personifications in the book Three Men in a Boat (To Say Nothing of the Dog) by Jerome Klapka Jerome. In the article the examples of extended personifications have been analyzed. The author of the research comes to the conclusion that extended personifications are employed to increase emotionality and expressiveness of the literary text, convey the attitude to the object of description and illustrate the hidden idea of the narrative
