Abstract
The atomization of jet fuel inside annular combustor is numerically modeled. The unsteady incompressible Reynolds Averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) equations are solved. The effect of turbulence is incorporated by using Realizable two equation k-Ɛ turbulence model. The evaporation is modeled by solving unsteady species transport equations over the continuum. The unsteady tracking of fuel droplets is modeled by using Discrete Phase Model (DPM) of a commercial software. The governing equations are solved using finite volume method. The spray velocity along and across the combustion chamber are presented and discussed. The unsteady spray structure and particles Histograms are presented and compared to the published literature, found acceptable.
