THE EFFECT OF NEW COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGIES ON THE LEISURE TIME USE AND THEORETICAL EVALUATION

In the twentieth century, internet emerged with developing technology. This innovation, which is called new communication technologies, has almost completely changed the leisure time activities of individuals with the use of social media. Leisure activities, such as chatting with others, participating in various activities or communities, socializing outside, or watching television at home, have been replaced by conversations, organizations, information gathering and fun time, especially through social media. In this context, discussing the benefits of this technology with the positive and negative sides through the theorists makes the study theoretically important. From this point of view, Harold Innis, Marshall McLuhan, Manuel Castells, Michel Foucault, Hal Niedzviecki and Jürgen Habermas were discussed and their views on new communication technologies were discussed.
