The book entitled “I am a hornbeam branch”, published by Hasan Ali Toptaş in 2009, is introduced and analysed through this review. There is no previous study related to this book, which is the first and only children's novel of the author. Perhaps the most important feature of this review is that it was the first study of the work. In this review, a book entitled “I am a hornbeam branch” is introduced and the book's suitability for children's literature is evaluated. The basic elements that construct children's literature are subject, characters, language and expression, plan, message. On the basis of the elements aforementioned, the contributions of this book to children's literature are determined. The book has appropriate topics and messages to the age groups of the readers. The events are designed according to the mental development of the reader and include a successful language and style. It is concluded that the book has the necessary qualities in terms of the basic elements of children's literature and has literary characteristics that the reader can read with pleasure. In this sense, it is concluded that Hasan Ali Toptaş's book entitled “I am a hornbeam branch” has a value in the children's literature with its subject and character, fiction and language; as well as its message.
