Abstract

In the history of mankind, there was no other recording tools and opportunities other than human memory until the writing comes into being. There was no recording tools other than the mind/memory which executes the transfer function. Therefore, the type and shape characteristics of folk literature were formed in “oral culture” environment. Due to the necessity and requirement, oral culture has gone through various stages and replaced by written culture. After the invention of the writing, the influence of oral culture has not completely disappeared with the influence of written tradition. Both traditions have coexisted for a long time. Until the written culture, verbal culture works were preserved by transferring poets from language to language. Although these works are now completely protected, there are cases where the written works have been transferred from language to language through oral culture and subsequently registered in writing. Some of the poems recorded by minstrels had travelled in oral culture for a while and then they were kept in written culture. Minstrel Style Poetry Tradition and Divan Literature Poetry Tradition have given works in the Ottoman geography for a long time. In this process some divan poets entered in the field of syllabic poetry which was dominated by minstrel style, some minstrels performed poems with aruz prosody written by divan poets. In this study, Minstrel Style Poetry Tradition and Divan Literature Poetry Tradition, two important traditions of Turkish Literature, have been studied in the context of oral/written culture. In this context, prosodic poems issues have been tried to be determined.
