Abstract
Wireless sensor networks (WSN) has a growing prospect because of its low-cost, power-efficient, and easy-to-implement characteristics. However, its security problems have become hot topic of research nowadays. Selective attacks are just one of frequently encountered security problems, which are easily combined with other attacks to cause more damage to the network. In this paper, the authors discuss trust based approaches to counter selective attacks, namely, Sybil, Wormhole, Black-hole, Gray-hole, Hello flood, and Distributed Denial of Service attacks on wireless sensor network WSNs. The countermeasures are not only capable of detecting compromised sensor nodes vulnerable for selective attacks but also detect all compromised messages transmitted to the base station through the sender nodes.
