Thе material providing of agriculture of Ukraine in 1953 – 1964 in publications of times of «stagnation»

The outline of the peculiarities of the development of scientific thought in the field of the history of the Ukrainian village during the «stagnation» period is relevant for the study of the level and possibilities for the progress of scientific knowledge under the conditions of the rule of the Marxist methodology. The article analyzes the peculiarities of the Soviet history of describing the functioning of agriculture in Ukraine and the life of its peasantry in the second half of the 1960s – the first half of the 1980s. It is noted that the characteristic feature of the historiography of the ‘Brezhnev period' was the imitation of the ideological orientations of the predecessors, manifested in the interpretation of the scientific and technological revolution. The works of Western researchers remained the object of criticism of Soviet historians, for whom the scientific and technological revolution was meaningful in effective development only under conditions of socialism. It is stressed that actually from the ‘Brezhnev period' there was a «tradition» to call the period of «Khrushchev» reforms «the completion of the construction of the material and technical base of socialism». Later, it was discussed, finally, about the construction of communism, as such. The thematic direction of research clearly confirms the ideological monopoly of the Communist Party and its government bodies to highlight the economic development of the Ukrainian SSR. By expounding the material and technical aspects of the economic life of the Ukrainian village, scientists considered them according to the general economic achievements, avoiding unnecessary details. It was concluded that the contemporary research, which was uncovered in the historiography of that period, despite the consideration of the aspect of engagement and ideological bias, was still and continues to be a factor in the historiographical process of its time. In the combination with the latest research, this fact opens up the prospects objectively, from purely scientific positions to analyze the problems of material life support of Ukrainian agriculture during the «thaw» period.
