Composition of the Ukrainian biographical dictionary: a scientific and communicative aspect

The dynamics of a communicative constituent of the activity of scientists in the process of compiling the Ukrainian biographical dictionary in the period from the late XIX until the early XXI century is investigated. Through the analysis of the organization of the scientific activity of V. B. Antonovych historical section (80s-90s, XIX ct.), Standing Commission for composition of a biographical dictionary of personalities of Ukraine (1919-1933), the Institute of Biographical Researches (1994 - early XXI ct.) modifications of nature of the research work of scientists and consequently the structure of scientific communication are traced, depending on the overall development of information technologies. It is noted that the level of its coordination is one of the main factors of efficiency of a biographical dictionary composition both through the directly manual, mechanized method, used in the beginning of the last century, and with the use of the latest electronic means of the modern society communication. Implementation of “the Ukrainian Biographical Society” virtual scientific community opportunities during the Ukrainian national biographical archive filling will be not only a valuable source of filling up of the database of prominent personalities of the past and present, but also an effective tool of dissemination and popularization of achievements of scientific and biographical activity in the society.
