Abstract

The article analyzes the archival resources of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine in the fi eld of development of Shevchenko’s studies as a scientifi c school at the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine in the 1930s. Documents of various archival institutions - central state archives of Ukraine, the archive of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, the Institute of Archival Studies of Vernadsky National Library of Ukraine, etc. were drawn to the development of the topic. Reporting documents of the AS of the UkrSSR of this period provided for a gradual covering of the processes of work on separate research topics and preparation of scientific publications in academic institutions. Decisions and directives of the decision-making bodies aimed at creating a closer connection of scientifi c research with the requirements of building an ideological Soviet society are of great importance for understanding the sociopolitical atmosphere in the republic. A signifi cant part of the documents identifi ed are the decisions of the decision-making bodies and the Presidium of the Academy of Sciences, devoted to preparing for the celebration of Shevchenko’s jubilees - the 120th anniversary and the 125th anniversary of the birth of the classic of Ukrainian culture T. Shevchenko. Publications in the offi cial periodicals of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine of that time were also involved in the study. In the process of researching archival resources, the main aspects of the scientifi c and scientifi c-organizational activity of the NAS of Ukraine were determined during the late 1929 - fi rst half of 1941. It is concluded that the period of the 30s of the twentieth century was a special stage in the development of Shevchenko’s studies, characterized by the transition from scientific work in small commissions to humanitarian institutes, the expansion of their geography, a signifi cant change in personnel, and strict regulation of the methods of scientifi c research of the Kobzar’s creative work. New documents are introduced into scientifi c circulation, highlighting the scientific and publishing activities of a leading scientifi c institution in Ukraine.
