Abstract
The definitions of various types of information search, reflected in the terminological standards of the «Information and Documentation» system, are revealed and presented. The analysis of the main type − informational and documentary searches, as well as other common types of search − bibliographic, factual and bibliographic was made. The negative tendencies that are taking place in terminological standards are noted, and the ways to overcome them are outlined. It is emphasized on the need for unification of professional terminology, which is proposed to be implemented in three stages. The first stage is the joint work of a philologist and specialist in a certain field of knowledge (archivist, librarian) with regard to the selection and interpretation of terms, the second one is creation and publication of terminological reference publications, and the third is the development and publication of terminological standards.
