Abstract
The article discusses the features of the use of language in various spheres of human activity, includ- ing in literature. In addition, the language, as a means of communication, expands its capabilities in the assimila- tion of artistic translated texts. In particular, it becomes an active process if the work has global significance. This applies to the works of Victor Hugo, most of which have been translated into Russian in different years. Russian readers are exposed to the literary texts of the author through the replenishment of vocabulary, as well as through the assimilation of moral and artistic values
