Abstract
Particular characteristics of social and humanitarian cognition, its generic peculiarities are considered. The most popular approaches in the social and humanitarian subjects of the 19th-20th century are stated. The idea of consistency of the knowledge evolution and appearance of its social and humanitarian version is substantiated. Historical cognition and critical principles of primary sources are characterized. The role of works of art in the historical cognition is described.
