Abstract
This research project is led by undergraduate engineering students which involves the design, construction, experimentation, and analysis of drainage from a water tank with different shaped orifices. Students gain a better understanding of fundamental concepts by comparing theoretical results to experimental results. Important applications in engineering courses such as Hydraulics and Fluid Dynamics are presented. The focus of this experiment is to examine the discharge coefficient for flow. Based on the discharge time equation, as the roughness coefficient increases, the required time increases. On the other hand, as the roughness coefficient decreases, the required time decreases. With this concept embedded in mind, the experiment is tested and compared to theoretical analysis.
