MANAGEMENT OF TUBERCULUOS SPONDYLITIS BY SINGLE STAGE ANTERIOR DECOMPRESSION AND STABILIZATION

Approach for surgical treatment of Dorsolumbar Tuberculosis has been controversial. The aims of surgery in potts spine are adequate decompression, adequate debridement, maintenance and reinforcement of stability and correction and prevention of deformity 1,2. Traditionally the anterior approach has been preferred throughout the spine to achieve these goals because the pathology of Tuberculosis mainly affects the vertebral bodies and disc spaces and the anterior approach allows direct access to the infected focus and is convenient for deriding infection and reconstructing the defects 3,4,5. Here we highlighted the case of Tuberculous spondylitis D7, D8, D9 with paraparesis for which single stage anterior decompression and stabilisation was done and post operatively patient had completely recovered from neurological deficit and no recurrence of symptoms during the one year followup.
