Abstract
The paper considers the question of the role and specificity of intercalated consonants in the study of word-formation patterns derived onomatopoeia in the French language. The analysis of the basic points of view of domestic and foreign researchers on the reasons of occurrence of intercalated consonants in derivatives of the French language is undertaken. It differentiates notions between an intercalated consonant and latent consonant. We prove the thesis of inclusion of an intercalated consonant in a derivative basis, the impact of analogy as a leading factor contributing the occurrence of the studied elements of derivatives.
