Abstract
Vitamin D overdose is one of the important causes of hypercalcemia. We report our patient, a weight lifter who presented with abdominal pain and constipation. Investigations revealed renal failure, hypercalcemia, hypervitaminosis D and low paratharmone level. Detailed history revealed intake of high dose of parenteral vitamin D during the previous 2 months. Renal biopsy showed acute tubular injury and calcium concretions. Patient was treated with intravenous saline and furosemide. He improved well with treatment and laboratory parameters became normal over three months. Hypervitaminosis D should be considered in the differential diagnosis of hypercalcemia and acute tubular injury.
