INTERESTING CASES OF LARYNGEAL TUBERCULOSIS- PRESENTING LIKE MALIGNANCY

Laryngeal tuberculosis is considered to be a rare disease. It usually presents with non specific symptoms with dysphonia being the commonest symptom. There are two types of laryngeal tuberculosis. Primary disease is due to haematogenous spread and secondary disease is because of spread from pulmonary lesion. Laryngoscopic examination often mimics primary laryngeal malignancy. The diagnosis of laryngeal tuberculosis has to be considered in patients with signs of malignancy. The incidence has increased due to increased prevalence of HIV infection. Early detection and appropriate medication would effect in complete healing of the lesion. Biopsy is the confirmative diagnosis for laryngeal tuberculosis. Associated HIV infection and pulmonary infection should be ruled out in all patients with laryngeal tuberculosis. We are reporting two patients of biopsy proven laryngeal tuberculosis. One patient is primary type and another patient is secondary type. Both patients had complete healing of lesion with antituberculous therapy.
