Abstract

The V. I. Vernadsky National Library of Ukraine has to its credit the numerous fundamental archaeographic publications on the history of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, biblio- and biobibliographic reference books, guides to the prominent scientists’ personal archival funds, monographs dedicated to the heritage of important scientific figures. These are based on the previous elaborations resulting from the preparation of the multi-volume ‘History of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine’ documentary series, the scientific ordering of the National Academy of Sciences members’, as well as other renowned Ukrainian scholars’ personal archival funds and the formation of bibliographical indexes for the ‘Sources of Ukrainian Biography’ series. The basis for the mentioned publications also has its origins in the advancement of the electronic ‘Ukrainian National Biographical Archive’ and the unfolding of personal V. I. Vernadsky and M. S. Hrushevsky biographical e-archives. Scientist databases located by the VNLU on the ‘Science of Ukraine: Access to Knowledge’ information portal, in the ‘Ukrainica’ e-library and various other scientometric platforms became a thoroughly new way to represent the current professional potential in Ukrainian science. The ‘Volodymyr Ivanovych Vernadsky and Ukraine’ theme is the issue of special concern to the activity of the VNLU, its urgency residing in the need to recover for Ukraine the name of its great son. Among the anniversary academic ‘Selected Scientific Works by Academician V. I. Vernadsky’ series, there are books devoted to his organizational scientific activity in Ukraine in years 1918-1921, an addition to this are his published correspondence with Ukrainian scholars, diaries and work bibliographies. A significant contribution to biographical resources on Ukrainian academic science is the processing and publication of celebrated Ukrainian scientists’ documentary heritage, respectable place is held by people engaged in the book and library field. Scientists from VNLU Institute of Biographical Science have studied the domestic experience in the area, outlined methodical and theoretical approaches to the introduction of new forms and methods called to represent scientists’ personalities. A great deal of work has been done about the tailoring of these means to the needs of varied readerships.
