Abstract

In the article is it considered a problem of waste management at the enterprises of the agrarian sector. Basic environmental problems, which may appear due to agroindustrial activities, are analyzed. There was carried out an analysis of the dynamics of agricultural waste generation in Ukraine. It has been established that crop and livestock wastes are a powerful source for increasing the efficiency and competitiveness of enterprises activity. It has been proved that an efficient system of agricultural waste management, which necessarily should involve its utilization and/or treatment, may help in solving an environmental problems as well as provide additional economic benefits for farmers. The potential of agricultural waste as raw materials for the production of energy carriers was analyzed. The basic methods of waste treatment and utilization are studied. It has been revealed that, despite numerous advantages and opportunities, the practice of agricultural waste management in Ukraine is poorly developed. This is due to a number of legislative, economic and organizational barriers. In addition, the current state policy in the sphere of waste management does not stimulate farmers to manage the environmental impacts of their enterprises, and, as a consequence, to increase environmental safety. There were proposed some measures to increase the efficiency of agricultural waste management. It is noted that the efficient management of agricultural wastes requires, first of all, the achievement of a rational balance between the expenses on environmental measures (utilization/recycling) and the permissible economic loss from environmental pollution as a result of waste accumulation. Therefore, any measures to stimulate investments in the treatment of waste should be economically feasible and should not create an excessive additional financial burdens for agrarian enterprises.
