Abstract

TOPIC INTRAOSSEOUS LIPOMA OF CALCANEUS AND ITS MANAGEMENT RARE CASE REPORT. INTRODUCTION Intraosseous lipoma is the rarest bone tumor, representing only 0.1 of benign bone tumors. Intraosseous lipomas are usually asymptomatic and discovered incidentally during unrelated investigations. Lipomas usually undergo varying degrees of involution, with necrosis, cyst formation, and calcification. Careful radiologicalpathological correlation is required to avoid misinterpretation. MATERIALS AND METHODS We had a patient with pain left heel without any constitutional symptom. Her blood investigations were normal. Central sclerotic area with surrounding lytic lesion found in calcaneum on plain radiograph. MRI showed characteristic Bulls eye appearance. We did curettage and bone cementing. Biopsy confirmed intraosseous lipoma. Patient is followed up for 2 yrs. Patient completely relieved of her pain. DISCUSSION The Differential diagnosis of Intraosseous lipoma are discussed. Radiographic Stages of intraosseous lipoma by milgram are discussed. The reason for MRI to be the investigation of choice also discussed. The chance of malignant transformation and the controversy behind the necessity of surgical treatment and conservative treatment are discussed with reference of literature review. CONCLUSION Intraosseous lipoma should be kept in mind when evaluating heel pain. Whenever we come across such a rare lesion, these set of typical radiological findings help us to diagnose and proceed accordingly.
