Abstract
Although the capital of Azerbaijan has a very ancient history, decorating its architectural monuments with sculptures dates back to the last 100-130 years. Studies show that, at the late of 19th and early 20th century, the art of carving showed itself in the construction of new luxurious buildings and their rich decoration with the development of the oil industry. Russian sculptors were directly involved in the creation of the first sculptures in Azerbaijan during the Soviet period. Y.Keylihis, Y.Tripolskaya, S.Korodetski, S.Erzya, B.Synayski and P.Sabsay were the authors of most of the monuments erected in Baku during the 1920s and 1930s. The 1920s and 1930s are characterized as a significant period in the sculpture of Azerbaijan in the direction of the creation of monuments related to urban architecture
