Abstract
Safety is one of the most important factors that is considered in the choice of mode for all transportation activities. Many choice mode modeling studies have included safety variables, but these variables have no significant effect on mode choice. When the safety variables are not included the model becomes unfit. This is important to study, because in many countries the safety variable is the main vision for all transportation and other activities. This aims of this research are 1) to analyze factors from the safety dimension and other latent variables to choose of commuter modes and willingness to switch modes, 2) analyzing the influence of mode safety dimensions on choice behavior and willingness to change commuter modes. The method used are SEM and multinomial logit. The results of this research are 1) choice model mode and shifting mode and influenced by demographic characteristics, travel characteristics and improvement in transportation safety, and safety variables as a dimension that has complex latent variables, and 2) Variables of user behavior, condition of mode, transit and environmental conditions play an important role as a factor forming the dimensions of transport safety towards choice mode behavior and willingness to shifting modes. The new findings from this research are that transportation safety factors are not only from indicators of accident frequency and the impact of accident, but also a transportation dimension that has a major influence on the mode of choice mode and mode shifting
