Abstract
The aim of the research is to reproduce a difficult way of the scientific work of the Ukrainian historian, archaeographer, archivist and teacher Pavlo Fedorenko (1880-1962) «Mines of the Left-Bank Ukraine of the 17th-18th centuries» - from the manuscript to the printed edition. Methodology. During the research general scientific methods of analysis and synthesis as well as a historical-critical method, a microhistorical analysis and a biographical method were used. They allowed us to reconstruct a certain part of life of the Ukrainian researcher. Scientific novelty. Unknown facts of Pavlo Fedorenko’s biography were discovered during the scientific processing of the archive fond of the researcher stored in the Institute of Manuscript of V. I. Vernadskyi National Library of Ukraine. Conclusion. In the background of the publication of Pavlo Fedorenko’s scientific work was a long struggle with a system and a man. In 1946 the manuscript of the monographic research of Pavlo Fedorenko was stolen by M. F. Holovanov. Later the researcher happened to find out and get back his work, but it was staying in the portofolio of the «Historical Notes» Publishing House for nine years. Three times Pavlo Fedorenko received negative answers from the Institute of History of the Academy of Scienses of the USSR for his proposals to accept the paper for the publication. Twice (1957, 1958) the Directory Board of the Institute declined the proposal of the Sector for the pheudal period history of the USSR regarding the publication of the monograph. Nevertheless due to the multiply efforts of the scientist his work was published. The «Mines» had been appreciated and positively reviewed by the scholars and approved by ordinary readers. The recollection of the past events might be useful for Pavel Fedorenko’s biographers and for researchers of Ukrainian historiography of the 20s-60s of the 20th century.
