Abstract

The article reveals special significance of secondary school principals' professionally important qualities, in particular, their professional tolerance and assertiveness as its component. The author discusses the basic characteristics of secondary school principals' assertiveness and assertive behavior as well as the relationship between their assertiveness, which is described as a secondary school principals' professional tolerance factor, and professional effectiveness. The author analyzes high, medium and low levels and characteristics of secondary school principals' assertiveness. It was found that secondary school principals had mainly low assertiveness. The author discusses a system of organizational and psychological factors that influence secondary school principals' assertiveness and the features of assertive behavior in relation to secondary school principals' gender, age, managerial experience, type of secondary school, school's location, etc. It is concluded that secondary school principals' assertiveness should be promoted both during their professional training and during their advanced training.
