Content and components of family doctors professional competence: psychological aspect

Abstract

Reforming healthcare in Ukraine stipulates for new requirements to medical specialists, in particular to family doctors, which are represented by the professional competence of the last. An issue of professional competence is extremely important within the competition sustained by Ukrainian specialists both in the world and Ukrainian trade market. The author studies the notion of professional competence of family doctor, defines its content and components fur to psychological view. The author analyses the notions of competence and competency, professional competence as well as the family doctors professional competence. Due to the performed analysis the author defines the following kinds of the family doctors professional competence: professional (represented with the professional knowledge, skills and abilities), cultural-ethical-law (represented with deontological, law components and the life views of the doctor), and the individual one (represented with psychological peculiarities of the doctor). Within this classification the author distinguishes the religious, social, cultural and other competencies. The article defines basic compounds of the family doctor professional competence: cognition, operational, technological, ethical, social and behavioral. The article establishes basic components of the family doctor professional competence: cognition (professional knowledge of the family doctor), will-motivation (motives of the professional activity and life values) and managerial (skills of organizing professional interaction), as well as additional parameters of the professional competence: ethical responsibility, reliability, professional orientation, self-development and adaptation abilities, cultural component. The author supposes to be perspective further study of the professional competence of family doctors as well as their empirical determination in family doctors in order to correct them.
