Abstract
The entrance of logic to Islamic world with translations in the tenth century has made way for objection of the logic by Arabic linguists claiming that “because the logic is linguistics of Greek it is unnecessary for Arabs”. The discussion text which is part of al-Imtâ wa al-Moânasah written by al-Tawhidi is taken as the main source which represents the discussions between logicians and linguists in tenth century by the scholars who study in the relation between logic and linguistics in that time. Also by taking this text as main source in this article; the discussions between linguists and logicians will be displayed and the effects of these discussions to the evolutions of logic and linguistics as “ilm” will be researched. In this syntax, logicians and linguists will be taken in hand as two different sides and the effect of discussions to un-derstanding of logic and linguistics of logicians and linguists will be tried to display. For either logicians or linguists' sides, by being selected one representative from each side at the time and after the time of discussions how logic came near to linguistics which linguists mean by linguistics in broader sense and how linguistics came near to logic which linguists mean by logic in the discussion time; i.e. linguistics which linguists mean by linguistics in nar-rower sense will be shown. In this article, al-Fârâbî and al-Gazzâlî were taken as representative of logicians and Ibn al-Sarrac and al-Sakkaki were taken as representative of linguists.
