Abstract

The performed study has revealed peculiarities of certain actual personal qualities of Paralympic athletes. In particular, the significant potential of Paralympic sports for personal self-realization, psychological well-being and hardiness improvement of people with disabilities it has been proved convincingly. Accordingly, the indicators of psychological well-being of the Paralympic athletes correspond to normative values and the results of the students without health problems, and exceed significantly the indicators of the students having disabilities, but not doing sports. The hardiness indicators of the Paralympic athletes exceed significantly the normative values, and the results of the students without health problems, and exceed dramatically the indicators of the students with disabilities. The article shows that, as for hardiness, Paralympic athletes possess more expressed, than normal, conviction that: a struggle allows them to influence outcomes of an unfolding situation, even if this influence is not absolute and does not guarantee success; everything that happens to a person contributes to his/her development of knowledge and experience, whether it is positive or negative; life is understood as a way of experience acquiring, they are willing to act at own peril and risk, considering that the desire for simple comfort and safety degrades a person's life. The research results can be used for creation of a system of psychological support of Paralimpic athletes aimed at their personal and sportive self-realization.
