Abstract
The characteristic features of the borderland are conflicts and misunderstandings. The church of both rites, Latin and Byzantine, should not stay aside. The Greek Catholic bishop Hryhory Chomyszyn from Stanislawow belonged to those people who wanted to reach an agreement in the spirit of a Christian peace. He was not understood by his people and especially by the Ukrainian nationalists. He warned against the heresy of nationalism that would put the nation above God, and consequently led on July 11, 1943 to “Bloody Sunday” in Volyn. At the turn of the 20th and 21st centuries in Lviv, two cardinals Marian Jaworski and Lubomyr Huzar, as the metropolitans of two Catholic rites, tried practically to cooperate in the work of reconciliation and alleviation of disputes. After the war there were many socalled reconciliations in love between Poles and Ukrainians that did not give the desired results. At present, our generation is obliged to reconcile in truth, because only it can bring liberation to us (J 8.32).
