Abstract

According to modern literature, there exist serious difficulties in differentiation of precancer with the onset of malignization due to the diversity of clinical course and morphology of precancerous diseases and absence of clear clinical signs of the early stages of malignant transformation. Because of a high probability for progression of precancerous disease to malignant ones, of much importance are their timely diagnosis and appropriate treatment. In the article the experience of application of autofluorescent stomatoscopy is shown as a method of oncoscreening on a visit to dentist. On examination, attention was paid to the color of fluorescence of normal mucosa and of pathological areas with use of AFS lamp. In the first clinical case, the focus of lichen planus was visualized as a dark area of pink shade with irregular edges without visible fluorescence. In the second clinical case, ulcer of the oral mucosa gave a bright red fluorescence, with a distinct round dark spot around it. In the first clinical case no data evidencing malignant transformation were found, additional examination and therapeutic treatment were administered. In the second case, on the basis of the data of anamnesis, of objective examination and of autofluorescent stomatoscopy the patient was diagnosed with unclarified malignant neoplasm of mouth (С 06.9). The patient was sent to oncologist for consultation. Analysis of the given clinical cases permits to recommend autofluorescent stomatoscopy is a screening method of diagnosis of precancerous states and of malignant transformation of the oral mucosa to be used in everyday dental practice.
