Abstract
The book by Dennis Slicker and Jos van Assendelft, discusses approaches to ecosystem assessment. Ecosystems provide various types of services to the mankind (e.g. water or clean air), which seem to be free and limitless. The authors try to identify the true value of ecosystems and suggest a management model, which can preserve them for future generations. The authors describe the use of natural resources by a human being from a historical perspective, outline the range of problems and their consequences and suggest approaches to their solution.
