Abstract
This article explores intertexts in love letters wrote in Rio de Janeiro during the 30's. We will walk the reader intertwining the letters proper with the lyrics of popular Brazilian songs – especially those of the period when the letters were exchanged. Our hypothesis is that the love letters writers tend to reproduce certain aspects of the love discourse genre which are similar to those found in popular songs. That is also the picture which is to be found in Brazilian songs about the new born working classes ́ love and life in the 20th century in Brazil.
