Abstract
The article is devoted to the comparison of translations of Gogol's comedy “The Inspector-General”. The translations under study are the ones made by Arthur Sykes, a British translator and Thomas Seltzer, an American translator of Russian origin. The study has shown that the quantity of transformations made by both translators is practically the same, with Arthur Sykes using a little bit more of them. The translation analysis has shown that there is a certain number of coinciding transformations as well as a number of different ones. The study has revealed that the impact of the translators' linguistic personae on the creation of the translation text is not predominant
