The Usage and Exposure of the Academic and Administrative Staff in Jordanian Universities to Jordan TV Programs and the Gratifications Attained

Abstract

This study aims to identify on the motives behind the exposure of academic and administrative staff in Jordanian universities to Jordan TV programs, and the ability of these programs to meet their desires and achieve their gratifications. The study also aims to explore why the respondents of the study sample are less likely to watch Jordan TV programs that they believe do not meet their desires and meet their needs. The population of the study consists of academic and administrative staff at Yarmouk, National Irbid, and Jerash universities in the north of Jordan. A study sample of (400) from academic and administrative staff who working in these universities are selected. The survey approach is adopted in conducting the study, as a pattern of descriptive studies. The questionnaire is the tool to collect the information. The study shows a number of results, including the following: 1- That (35%) of the study sample rely on satellite TV in getting the news and information. 2- All respondents of the study sample watch Jordan TV programs, but in varying degrees, and (50.5%) of respondents watch Jordan TV programs permanently, because they believe that these programs meet their desires and attain their gratifications. 3- The religious programs receive the first attention of viewers, followed by the news programs, cultural, economic, and entertainment.
