Abstract
ABSTRACT In this article Thermooptical behavior of novel supra molecular hydrogen bonded liquid crystal complexes: Dicarboxylic acid (Malonic acid) : p-n alkoxy benzoic acid (nOBA) abbreviated as MA:nOBA (where n = 10,11,12) is investigated. The given hydrogen bonded liquid crystals (HBLCs) prepared from mesogenic nOBA moieties and a non-mesogenic aliphatic dicarboxylic acid (Malonic Acid, MA) moiety. This investigation involves the Polarizing Optical Microscope (POM) technique in combination with Image Processing. Analysis of Polarizing microscopic textures of HBLCs as a function of temperature are used to study the thermo optical behavior. This study involves the computation of Thermo optical parameters of samples, such parameters are optical transmittance, absorption coefficient, extinction coefficient, phase retardation, birefringence and order parameter. Computational analysis of optical textures is carried out on MATLAB platform. Results obtained from the present analysis shows that HBLC complex MA:10OBA exhibits the good thermo optical behavior in terms of phase stability and optical bahavior compared to other complexes.
