Abstract

Indigenous peoples are often heavily dependent on the natural resources of their traditional regions and territories and are therefore directly affected by the degradation of the environment and ecosystems. As one of the most vulnerable to climate change, indigenous peoples have called for years for a greater protection of their human rights and for the strengthening of their legal status in the context of international negotiations on climate change and related efforts, and to effectively and fully participate in these discussions as an active actor in their respective countries and in the world, in accordance with the principles of the 2007United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples. Through this study, Focus will be on the relationship between climate change and indigenous peoples, highlighting their status as distinct peoples in the context of international negotiations, policies and efforts to address climate change, including its potential impacts
