Abstract

Abstract: Mostly poor diet and not timely checkup of kidney may lead to chronic renal disease. Ultrasound examination of renal disease depends on sonologists. When patient has acute or chronic renal disease, renal cortical thickness could be correlated with renal length and renal echogenicity grades. Objective: To nd out the sonographic correlation between renal cortical thickness and early chronic renal disease. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted on 50 patients suffering from non-obstructive renal diseases in which obstructive elements were not included e.g. renal stones. The study was conducted at Diagnostic Ultrasound department of The Nawaz Sharif Social security Hospital and Gilani Ultrasound Center Lahore. Results: The number of acute 21(42%) and chronic 29(58%) patients were taken and mean renal cortical thickness was 6.8 ± 2.0 the mean renal cortical thickness of acute individuals was 8.3 ± 1.0 and the mean renal cortical thickness of chronic individuals was 5.6 ± 1.8. Conclusions: According to this study decreased renal cortical thickness of kidney indicated the kidney disease and through renal cortical thickness we may predict the progression of Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD).
