Prevalence of Neck Pain in Computer Operators of Lahore City

Abstract

Abstract: Computers have converted into an epitome of life. Computer operators have increased risk of having neck pain. Although there is much research on prevalence of neck pain in general population, there is less research on prevalence of neck pain in computer operators. Objective: To nd out the prevalence of neck pain in computer operators of Lahore city. Methods: This was a cross sectional study. 669 individuals from both gender using computer and laptops for minimum 4 consecutive hours in a day with a work experience of at least 6 months, were selected using non probability convenient sampling technique. Data were collected by using a pre-tested questionnaire. Numeric Rating Scale was used to determine the intensity of pain. Descriptive statistics were applied by using SPSS version 21.0. Results: Out of 669 participants, 382(57.10%) people were without neck pain and 287 people reported neck pain making a prevalence rate of (42.90%). Conclusions: There was 42.90% prevalence of neck pain in computer operators of Lahore. It was also found that neck pain is associated with gender and smoking. According to this study, no signicant association of neck pain was seen with working hours and family history of neck pain. Keywords: Prevalence, Neck pain, Computer Operators, Job Experience.
