Abstract

Bstract: Anxiety is a natural body reaction to crises and part of the human daily life experience, when anxiety prolongs to more than three weeks it starts to interfere with daily life. Objective: To find out the determinants of anxiety among pregnant and lactating mothers attending Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, Lahore. Methods: A cross sectional study was conducted at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, Lahore. 100 pregnant and lactating females were selected from indoor and outdoor patients of lactation and gynae ward. Data were collected through pre tested questionnaire by using non-probability convenient sampling technique during July 2017.Data were analyzed by using SPSS version 21.0 by using cross tabulation. Results: 50 pregnant and 50 lactating females were selected. Analysis of data showed that anxiety among pregnant females were 30% and 20% in lactating females due to social factors. Conclusions: Current study suggested that there was a strong association between anxiety and psychosocial, biological, and dietary factors. Females consuming less food were suffering more from anxiety. Anxiety rate was higher in pregnant females as compared to lactating females.
