Abstract
Abstract: Ultrasound makes the difference between cystic and solid changes in breast tissue. But, it also makes the differential diagnosis in term of benign from malignant to correlate the BI-RADs 4,5,6 category with mammography ndings. Objective: To determine the correlation of mammographic and ultrasonographic ndings of palpable malignant breast masses. Methods: A cross-sectional study with non-probability convenient sampling was conducted at Diagnostic Radiology Department of Institution of nuclear medicine and oncology Lahore (INMOLHospital). 80 women with complaint of palpable lump in breast were selected. Results: Results of the two diagnostic modalities comparative ultrasound and mammography matches as category 2 and 3 on mammography and benign on ultrasound showed, 18.8% of masses and category 6 on mammography and malignant on ultrasound showed 30.0% of masses. 51.3% suspicious masses were diagnosed on category 4 and 5. Axillary lymph nodes of 6 patients were benign, 34 patients were suspicious, and the lymph nodes of the 40 patients were not visible on both mammography and ultrasonography. Conclusions: Diagnostic mammography is highly sensitive and accurate in detection especially palpable malignant breast masses. The description of the ultrasound to correlate diagnostic mammography as a gold standard, standardized diagnostic tool according to the American College of Radiology, Breast Imaging Reporting and Data System (BI-RADS). Keywords: Diagnostic mammography, Ultrasonography, Breast imaging reporting and data system (BI-RADS), Malignant palpable breast masses.
