Abstract
Abstract: Advance high technology in professional life is progressing very fast. Technological advances, particularly, innovation of computers, have reorganized the aspect of working. Computer has become an essential unit of our life. However, its use is not free from health risks. Objective: To determine the work related musculoskeletal wrist pain and functional disability in ofce workers using computer. Methods: A cross sectional study was conducted using convenient sampling technique. 171 participants including 132 males and 39 females were selected, from two software houses of Lahore, Pakistan. The data were statistically analyzed by SPSS version 21.0. Results: The prevalence of wrist pain and functional disability was 74.3% and 73.7% respectively. Pain at rest, in doing task with repeated movement, and pain when it is at worst was 43.3%, 70.8% and 72.5% respectively. Prevalence of difculty in turning door knob 48%, in cutting meat 67.8%, in fasten buttons 63.7%, in using affected hand to push up from chair 69%, in personal care activities 53.2%, in household work 67.8%, in job work 68.4%, and in performing recreational activities 62%. Conclusions: Musculoskeletal wrist pain was prevalent among ofce workers using computer. Hand and wrist work related musculoskeletal disorders(WMSDs) showed considerable portion of work-related illnesses and loss of work.
